- About Joe Fenton -

Born and raised in a rural Northern Californa community, Joe developed a dovotion for skateboarding as a kid. But, being isolated in the pine forests with no concrete for miles he was forced to hone other skills as he patiently awaited pavement riding opportunities; and so he developed a passion for art making. Influenced by his "perscriptions" to MAD Magazine, his Garbage Pail Kid collections, Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, and an occasional Marvel comic, it soon became clear where his real devotion would lie. In his solitary, forest bedroom, beneath large power lines and the big starry sky, where UFO and Bigfoot sightings were eveyday considerations, and spiritual philosophies and the Holy Bible were always open for discussion, Joe spent innumerable hours doodling his thoughts.

Trained by Rand Hugget for four years of high school art in Sutter Creek, further study of fine art at Sacramento City College, and later going through the Graphic Design program at CSUSacramento, Joe deepened his professionalism and enthusiasm in art making. He has become a well versed, professional designer, art maker and teacher. His real-world experience includes prepress print production and editorial design, sign production and installation, commissioned fine art, gallery and wholesale art framing, free-hand illustration, teaching, airport shuttle driving, and pizza chef. He currently resides in Elk Grove, California with his wife and baby daughter, making comics and tackling other creative projects; now only occasionally skateboarding.
